FREE screenings, checks and vaccinations saves lives

Have you had your vaccination flyer

Health officials are urging us to take up Free Health MOTs and protect ourselves and our families this winter. Free healthcare services including vital flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, are on our doorsteps. With seasonal respiratory illnesses rising as cold weather approaches, local health providers emphasize that taking action early pays.

Balsall Heathans recently gathered at a local children’s centre for a special community Health Awareness Day, with free health screenings, expert medical advice, and signposting to local support services. Organised by the Hall Green Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS) in partnership with Community Connexions, NHS Birmingham and Solihull, and NHS Black Country, breaking down barriers to healthcare by bringing essential medical services directly to us.

On-Site Screenings and Support

Visitors to the event were able to take advantage of walk-in services provided by local health teams and partner organisations, including Healthwatch Birmingham and Solihull and Macmillan Cancer Support: Free blood pressure checks, Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments, and diabetes advice. On-site, no-appointment cervical cancer screenings for eligible women aged 25 to 64. Guidance from Macmillan representatives on cancer prevention, early detection, and emotional support. Opportunities to connect with local support groups, social activities, and independence services, all while enjoying complimentary refreshments.

Protect Yourself and Your Community This Season: Get Vaccinated!

As winter approaches, keeping our community healthy remains a top priority. One of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself, your loved ones, and vulnerable neighbours is by staying up to date with your seasonal vaccinations.

Both Flu and COVID viruses spread more easily during colder months, and protection from previous doses or past infections fades over time. Adults aged 50 and over, carers, and individuals with long-term health conditions are strongly encouraged to get both their flu vaccine and COVID-19 booster.

How to Get Your Vaccines in Birmingham and Solihull:

  • Local Pharmacies & GP Surgeries: Many local pharmacies offer quick walk-in or pre-booked vaccination appointments.
  • Book Online or Call: Visit the NHS National Booking Service or call 119 to find walk-in clinics and book convenient appointment times near you.

Don’t wait until winter viruses spike—protect your health and boost your community’s immunity today!
