Celebrating Our Local Heroes, in Balsall Heath and Nationally
So many incredible people contribute so much to life in Balsall Heath. At Balsallheathan.org, we want to celebrate those who make a daily difference, and help our local voluntary groups get the national recognition they deserve. Send us your stories, your local heroes, and we’ll put our community heroes in the Heathan and on the map!
Did you know that local volunteer groups can receive The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS)?
Bright Future Association
A voluntary and non-profit organization dedicated to supporting local youth and families through sports, physical activities, training, and social development skills. Their work focuses on building community cohesion, improving mental/physical health, and providing opportunities for young people – many of us will have met Nassim Saif and his team working with young people all across Balsall Heath.
While it was announced in November 2025, on 16th May 2026 the Lord Lieutenant officially presented with the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service at their ‘End of Season Awards’ Day.

What is the KAVS
Equivalent to an MBE, the KAVS is the highest award given to local voluntary groups across the UK. It recognizes outstanding, life-changing work led by volunteers, and once awarded, it is held for life. Any group doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community can be nominated for the award.
